ECI Markets Review

ECI Markets Review

ECI Markets is a forex broker, which offers three account types. One of them is an Islamic (swap-free) account, while the other two are aimed at two different target groups, as their name suggests.

The Company. Security of Funds

Company Country Regulation
Elite Capital Investments Georgia NB of Georgia

ECI Markets stands for Elite Capital Investments. The company is based in Georgia and regulated by the local National Bank. This is an unusual form of regulation, which we do not know much about.

Although Georgia is not an off-shore zone, it is not a fully developed market economy either. The legal environment is most likely better than the ones in some off shore zones, but still slightly looser than that in the European Union members.

Financial regulation is a key issue for us, as it limits the activities of forex brokers. Different regulators impose rules with varying degrees of stringency. Take the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for instance. It forces brokers to keep clients funds in segregated accounts – a mechanism which prevents free and unconditional access to traders’ capital. This vastly limits the possibility of a the most direct form of fraud – a company simply taking your money and letting you paper trade, without the ability to withdraw anything. Another key ruling is the implementation of a compensation scheme, which functions pretty similarly to an insurance company. Brokers are forced to set aside a portion of their profits in a common pool, which later serves as a guarantee, in case one of them goes bankrupt. If you trade with an FCA-regulated broker, you will be covered up to £50,000.

ECI Markets hasn’t fully disclosed its trading conditions on the website. This is a rather uncommon practice, which lowers our overall opinion on them.

Trading Conditions

Minimum Initial Deposit

The minimum with which you can open an account at ECI Markets is $250. This level is not unreasonable, although many brokers nowadays require much less, in order to attract new clients. For instance, a cent-account at FXTM can be created with as low as $5.

Do not forget, the deposit minimum should only be a concern for inexperienced traders. Veterans will know, much more capital is required in order to trade with a long term perspective.

Average spreads & Commissions

Spreads at the ECI Markets vary by account type. Generally speaking, conditions for the standard and Islamic accounts are almost competitive to the current offers by other brokers. On the other hand conditions regarding the Pro account aren’t clear. Although ECI provides some information on the tightness of their liquidity pool, the commissions are not specified. This makes judging them impossible

Leverage

The maximum leverage at ECI Markets is 1:500 for the Standard account and goes down to 1:300 for the rest. Both of these levels are extremely high. If you are looking for even more leverage, you may want to check XM, which provides 1:888.

On the other hand, if you are looking at these kinds of ratios, and thing you need more, you may be confusing trading with gambling. Do be sure to understand the risks involved with margin trading, before placing your first trade.

Trading Platforms

ECI Markets’ platform of choice is MetaTrader4(MT4). This is the most popular currency trading platform, which has earned the respect of thousands of traders. The major advantages it has over other similar solutions are the charting system, the ability to handle a vast number of instruments at the same time and the easy to learn coding language. The latter has led to the creation of multiple new technical indicators, market screeners, position calculation tools and perhaps most interestingly, automated trading systems. They are known as Expert Advisors and wee have made reviews on some of them here.

On the other hand MT4 has several disadvantages. By default (without any interaction by the broker) positions can not be partially closed. Furthermore there is a lack of multiple-monitor support. Both of these “features” are disliked by seasoned day traders.

Sadly, we couldn’t test ECI Markets’ iteration of MT4, as the platform is not freely available for download from their website.

Methods of Payment

ECI markets accepts payments via Bank Transfer, Credit/Debit Card and Skrill. At least the e-wallet they chose to include is one of the most popular ones, when it comes to trading.

ECI Markets is a Georgia-based forex broker. It is regulated by the National Bank of Georgia. This brings the company some credibility. On the other hand trading conditions are not impressive. That being said they are not too bad either. The most surprising thing is that the commission structure is not mentioned on the company’s website.

The Broker is not a safe forex broker, Instead you can use Plus500, XM, eToro, Fxpro or AvaTrade forex brokers.
